FAQs

IMG_7791Below are some common questions asked by past and future pet owners about various aspects of Happy Tails.

Please contact us if you have a question that you cannot find an answer to.

Health

Do you take my pet out for walks?

We exercise each pet at least 3 times each day in our yard. The yards are enclosed by a 6′ high chain link fence to provide safety for your pet. Unless specifically requested, your pet will be exercised alone or as a family unit. If you would like your dog to be in a play group with other dogs, please request at the time of drop-off.

Does my pet need to have shots before being boarded with Happy Tails?

We require annual verification that your pet is up-to-date on the following vaccinations:

  • Rabies: All dogs and cats under 2 years of age must have a rabies shot within the last year; dogs and cats 2 years or older must have had a rabies shot in the last 3 years.
  • Distemper: All dogs and cats within the last year. If your vet has adopted an altered schedule for your pet, please have them not that on your paperwork. We will accept your vet’s judgment on the timing of Distemper vaccinations.
  • Bordetella (kennel cough or canine cough): All dogs within the last year, regardless of age. This is a highly contagious air-borne bacteria that can easily spread from dog to dog. While this bacteria is not life threatening, it is annoying and can lower the dog’s resistance to other secondary infections.
How many nights can my pet stay with you?

We often have 1 day stays in times of emergency and also have people who board their pets with us for over a month. Most dogs and cats assimilate to their new environment in the first few days and do not seem to know the difference between 4 days and 14. That being said, each pet is unique and you should consider your pet’s needs and personality when booking extended stays.

We do offer a 5% discount on the rate when pets are boarded for 14 days or more.

What times can i pick up and drop off my pet?

First, we require you make an appointment. This is to avoid multiple people coming at the same time.

Second, you can call anytime to make an appointment to Pick-up or Drop-off your pet Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 6:00pm, of Saturday, Sunday and Holidays from 8:00am – 9:30am and 4:30pm – 6:00pm

See our complete hours of operation details including appointment requests and holidays.

Hours

Can I come anytime between your opening and closing hours for pick-ups and drop-offs?

Since the pets need to be fed and exercised and, at times, there are 21+ animals, we would appreciate it if you made an appointment during our regular hours and stuck to it.

Do you charge by the calendar day, over night or something different?

Our rates are similar to when humans stay at a hotel. You get charged per night starting on the day your pet checks in, and, as long as you checkout (pick up) before noon, you will not be charged another day. See complete rate details >

My flight is late, can i pick up my pet after hours?

Our hours of operation are fixed and we would ask that you a) notify us if you are going to miss a pick-up and b) kindly wait until the next available pick-up window to pick up your pet.

Can I get a discount on two dogs if they stay in the same kennel?
